Als ich 1991 erstmals 5 Tage Urlaub auf den Malediven verbrachte, und zwar auf der Insel Baros, hatte ich noch keine Ahnung, was man hier so alles beachten muß. Vom Boottransfer mit Anzug und Krawatte unter tropischer Sonne, einem Kreislaufkollaps bei 30°C um Mitternacht, bis zu einem fast toten Hausriff lief eigentlich alles schief und doch gefiel es mir so gut, daß es für mich (natürlich nur neben meiner Frau !) nur mehr eine Liebe gibt, MEINE MALEDIVEN !
Das obere Bild führt zur interaktiven Luftaufnahme von Baros, die nächsten 2 Fotos zeigen Baros 2000 und 2004 und das untere Bild im Dezember 2005. Baros liegt im südlichen Teil des Nord-Male-Atolles und wenn man aus den Fenstern der Wasserflugzeuge blickt, die den östlichen und nordöstlichen Teil dieses Atolles anfliegen, bzw. das gesamte Baa-Atoll, kann man die kleine halbmondförmige Insel Baros mit ihrer runden tiefblauen Lagune und den markanten Overwater-Bungalows sehen. Selbst aus den rechten Luken der Jumbojets, während sie im Sinkflug Male anfliegen, ist dieses auffällige lange Riff mit der kleinen Insel am Ende zu erkennen.

My first time on Maldives was 5 days of vacation in 1991 on Baros island but I had no idea what I must take everything into account here so. The Boottransfer with suit and tie under a tropical sun, a circulatory collapse at 30° degrees Celsius around midnight, up to an almost bleak house reef by the crown of thorns seastar everything went wrong actually and but I liked it so a lot that it gives only more a love for me (of course only next to my wife!), MY MALDIVES !
The upper picture leads to the interactive aerial photo of Baros, the middle 2 photo shows Baros in 2000 and 2004 and the last photo shows Baros in December 2005. Baros lies in the southern part of the north-painting atoll and if you looks from the windows of the seaplane this approach the eastern and northeastern part of this atoll or the Baa atoll, you can see the little crescent-shaped island of Baros with her round deep blue lagoon and the prominent Overwater bungalows. Even from the right windows of the Jumbojet, while they are flying down to the Malé airport, this striking long reef can be recognized with the little island at the end.

1991 gab es nur aus Korallen gemauerte Reihenbungalows, einfach eingerichtet und ohne Klimaanlage. Heute sind die Villen luxuriös eingerichtete Einzel-Bungalows und komplett aus Holz gefertigt.

In 1991 there almost were only row bungalows and they still very simply were equipped and there was an air conditioner in fewest rooms. Today the villas are individual fitted out modern manufactored from wood.

schnorcheln - snorkeling

Hier gehe ich (um ein paar Kilo schlanker und ein paar Jahre jünger) schnorcheln. Dieses Foto wurde an der Südostseite aufgenommen (auf der Luftaufnahme links oben). Hier ist der schönste Bereich des Hausriffes und hier tauchten auch fast täglich junge Schwarzspitzen-Riffhaie mit 70 bis 150 cm Länge auf. Die Wellenbrecher im Hintergrund sollen die Insel vor Strömung und Brandung schützen, aber da sie nur bei Ebbe aus dem Wasser ragen, stören sie nicht so sehr, wie auf manch anderen Inseln. Da die meisten Urlauber einen breiteren Strand wollen, als er von Natur aus vorkommt und durch die globale Erwärmung und dem Ansteigen des Meeresspiegels werden wahrscheinlich immer mehr Inseln durch Wellenbrecher geschützt werden müssen.

Here I go (slim still by a couple of kilos) snorkeling. This photo was taken at the south eastern side (on the aerial photo on the left above). Here is the most beautiful area of the house reef and young Blacktip Reef-Sharks appeared with 70 to 150 cm of length here also almost daily. Although the breakwaters in the background shall protect the island from flow and surf but since they rise from the water only at low tide, they don't disturb so much as on some other islands. Since the most vacationists want a broader beach than he happens from nature and by the global warming and rising of the sea-level will more and more islands probably have to be protected by breakwaters.

Tauchbasis - Divebase

Die Resort-eigene Diving by Design Tauchbasis ist unter divers@baros.com.mv erreichbar und steht im Südwesten von Baros am Rand der tiefblauen, runden Lagune beim Landungssteg und hier unternehmen auch die Neulinge ihren ersten Schnuppertauchgang. Auf diesem Foto haben sie ihre ersten Instruktionen schon hinter sich (dieses und das obere GIF Hai-Bild habe ich 1991 einer Kodak Wegwerfkamera aufgenommen).

The resort own Diving by Design diving-base is under divers@baros.com.mv attainable and stands in the southwest of Baros at the edge of the azure blue, round lagoon near the landing stage and here also the novices make their first sniffs diving-trip. On this photo, they have their first instructions already behind itself (I picked up this and the upper GIF shark-picture 1991 with a Kodak disposable-camera).

Ausstattung
Die direkt auf dem Steg liegende Tauchschule wurde 2005 völlig neu aufgebaut und um ein Büro und einen Schulungsraum, der bisher auf der Insel war, erweitert. So können die Tauchboote auch weiterhin direkt an der Tauchbasis ankern. Derk Molenaar's Tauchbasis ist besonders um individuellen Service und entspannte Atmosphäre bemüht und den Tauchgästen wird nicht nur die Unterwasserwelt nahe gebracht, sondern auch eine Menge über die Lebewesen im Meer.
Alle Tauchkurse werden nach den Richtlinien von PADI geführt und bietet Anfänger- und Fortgeschrittenenkurse, welche mit international anerkanntem Brevet abschließen. Auch Spezialkurse, wie z.B. Unterwasserbiologie, können belegt werden. Ab Anfang Februar wird den Tauchern auch Nitrox angeboten (Membransystem). Standardgröße der Tauchflaschen ist 12 Liter, für "Schnellatmer" stehen jedoch gegen 3 US$ pro Tauchgang auch 15 Liter Stahlflaschen zur Verfügung. Das Tauchboot wurde mit einer Toilette und einer Handdusche ausgerüstet. Trinkwasser gibt es an Bord gratis.
Das Klassenzimmer ist mit Video, DVD, Fernsehen und Computer ausgestattet, so dass man sich eventuell die Unterwasserbilder gleich ansehen kann. Die Tauchbasis vermietet auch UW Kameras, wie die Sea & Sea Kleinbildkamera, oder die digitale Sony Cybershot (5 Megapixel). Möglichkeiten für persönliche UW-Videoaufnahmen gibt es auf anfrage.
Wer keine eigene Ausrüstung besitzt, kann Jackets (Aqualung), Atemautomaten (Scubapro), Nassanzüge (3 mm "Shorties") und Lampen mieten. Die Nachtauchgänge finden mit dem Boot statt. Hausrifftauchgänge können jederzeit am Tag geplant werden. Das Tauchgerät wird an der Tauchschule zusammengebaut und vom Staff zum Einstieg in das Hausriff gebracht.

Equipment
The diving school - located directly on a jetty - was built up completely newly in 2005 and extended by an office and a classroom which was on the island till now. So the diving boats can anchor directly at the diving base furthermore, too. Derk Molenaar's diving base tries particularly around individual service and atmosphere eased and not only the underwater world is brought home to the diving guests, but also a crowd over the animals of the sea.
All diving courses are led according to the guidelines of PADI and offers beginner and advanced courses, completing with an internationally recognized Brevet. Special courses, such as underwater biology, can also be enrolled on. As of the beginning of February Nitrox also is offered to the divers (membrane system). Standard size of the diving bottles is 12 litres, 15 litres of steel bottles are available for "shoot breather" for US$ 3 per diving walk. The diving boat was equipped with a toilet and a hand shower. There is drinking water freely on board.
The classroom is equipped with video, DVD, television and computer so that perhaps you can look at the underwater pictures at once. The diving base also rents out diving cameras, like the Sea & Sea miniature camera or the digital Sony Cybershot (5 megapixel). There are possibilities for personal diving video recordings on asks.
Who doesn't have a own equipment can rent Jackets (Aqualung), breath machines (Scubapro), water suits (3 mm "Shorties") and lamps. The night diving take place out of the boat. House reef diving starts can be planned any time on the day. The aqualung is put together at the diving school and taken from the Staff to house reef entry.

ein eigenes T-Shirt drucken - printing your own T-Shirt

Für alle Malediven-Fans, die sich selbst ein T-Shirt mit dem Inselfoto anfertigen möchten, hier gibt es das Bügelbild der Insel Baros als Zip-Datei zum downloaden !
Auf der entpackten JPG Datei im Format A4 ist oben das Inselfoto und darunter der Inselname seitenverkehrt. Die JPG-Grafik auf eine handelsübliche Bügel-Folie (T-Shirt Folie) drucken und dann das Foto und den Inselnamen mit einem höchstens 4 mm schmalen Rand separat ausschneiden. Diese Teile werden vorne auf ein weißes T-Shirt gebügelt, während der Text www.malediven.at für den Rücken des T-Shirts bestimmt ist. Das ist keine Pflicht, aber mich würde es sehr freuen! Je nach Vorschrift des Bügel-Folien Herstellers (normalerweise 10 Sekunden mit Temperatur für Baumwolle) ohne Dampf aufbügeln und eventuell mit einem weißen Papier nochmals kurz überbügeln. Viel Spaß und noch mehr neidvolle Blicke der anderen Urlauber !
For all Maldives fans, this one himself make a T-shirt with the island photo, there is the hanger-picture of the island Baros as Zip-File for Download !
On the unpacked JPG-file in the format A4 the island photo is above and under this the island name reversedly. Printing the JPG graphic on a customary hanger-foil (T-Shirt foil) and then cutting the photo and the island name out with a not more than 4 mm narrow edge separately. These parts are ironed in front on a white T-shirt while the text www.malediven.at is meant for the back of the T-Shirt. This isn't a duty but I would be very much pleased! Depending on regulation of the hanger-foils' manufacturer (usually 10 seconds with temperature for cotton) without steam iron and perhaps with a white paper again short over-hangers. A lot of fun and still more envious looks of the other vacationists !

Der "Baros special" war mein erstes Cocktailrezept von den Malediven, aber sicher nicht das letzte ;-))) Dieses Bild braucht keine Erklärung, sondern nur die passenden Zutaten. Ja, und noch etwas, am Besten trinken Sie diesen Cocktail bei Sonnenuntergang auf Ihrer Lieblingsinsel an der Sunset-Bar. Auf den meisten Insel geht die Sonne um etwa 18:30 unter. Manche haben aber ihre eigene Sommerzeit, so daß Sie entweder 1 Stunde früher Essen gehen, oder um 2 bis 3 Drinks früher zu trinken anfangen können
